JAPANESE 3 -- First period

Handout from New York Times on the importance of literature-in-translation.
Discussion on individual papers and predilections of particular writers. Hand back papers, and then collect again for use at Parent Conferences.

Went over test on plain negative verb forms.
Review on board:
Homework:
1. Using the following verbs, make a chart showing masu form, te form, plain affirmative, and plain negative. Then write a sentence for each verb in the plain negative (either habitual action or future)
おきます、かかります、かえります、います、いいます、あります、いきます、寝ます、待ちます、話します、会います、来ます(Comes)、します
2. 2-paragraph summaries of each of the two articles handed out ( the NY Times article on translation and the Japan Times article on Japanese rock bands in Texas)

JAPANESE 1 – Fifth period。

Jacob T. led the morning exercises.

Everyone practiced singing the KJ school song that our guests sang for us during their last week in school.

Students worked on katakana writing for katakana from ya through n(g), including figuring out the correct English meanings for katakana vocabulary words on the handout. Bring the handout again tomorrow so that we can finish it.

JAPANESE 2 Sixth Period

Quinton H. led the opening exercises.

Students were given a handout about seasons, months and the school year and assigned to write more sentences for each month from April to August. A list of kanji expressions, with pronunciations and meanings, was attached
