JAPANESE 1 – Fifth period

In pairs, students displayed their menus and answered questions about food and drink.

This was the menu assignment: With a partner, design your own menu on a full-sized separate piece of paper. What do you like? What do you dislike? Your restaurant serves only foods you like. You’ll have (at least 3) categories, like food たべもの, drinks のみもの, dessertsデザート, etc., with at least 5 choices within each category. Give your restaurant a Japanese name and make your menu beautiful. Don’t forget prices in 円(えん)or ¥ (this is the international symbol). Plan for an exchange rate of 100 ¥ = $1 U.S.

Students worked on a relational-particle practice sheet before class ended yesterday.
Didn't have time to cover this today -- postpone to next week

Homework: translate the following dialogue into 日本語

1K5 RESTAURANT CONVERSATION
BETWEEN WAITER AND CUSTOMER
ウェイタ おきゃくさま

Waiter: welcome いらっしゃいませ
Customer: Hello
Waiter: Please sit
Customer: Thank you. Please give me a menu.
Waiter: (Here) please (take it)
Customer: Thank you. Nice day (good weather) isn’t it?
Waiter: Yes, that’s so.
Customer (points to spot on menu): What’s this?
Waiter: (answers according to where customer points)
Customer: Is it delicious?
Waiter: No, it’s yucky-tasting.
Customer: Really? Well, what’s this? (points to another spot on menu)
Waiter: This is so-so.
Customer: This is a funny/strange restaurant. What is delicious?
Waiter (pointing at one of the desserts): __________ and ________are delicious.
Customer: OK. ________ and _________ please.
Waiter (goes away and comes back with food): (here) please (take) it.
Customer: Thank you. I humbly receive. (customer eats food at blinding speed)
