Sub plans for Kimmel’s classes 2009 October 9, 2009
An Eight Period Day
Dear Sub,
Thank you very much for taking my classes today while I finish recovering from bronchitis.
YOROSHIKU
1st period – Japanese 3 – room 110
You will find 25 copies of a handout on the central table in room 102, the world language office. Students should translate the reading passage into in English, writing on a separate piece of paper. They should hand that paper in to you at the end of the period. Please tell them to keep the original because both the reading passage and the list of jobs/professions on the back are very important.
Advisory – sophomore advisory 201 – room 110
They are not supposed to be talking during announcements. Please keep them quiet then, as the announcements are important.
5th period – Japanese 1 – room 110
Students should do pages 37 through 39 in their workbooks, practicing the symbols for ha, hi, hu (actually pronounced more like fu, but with both lips together, like “b”), and ho.
Homework for the weekend is to make sure they have flash cards for all hiragana up through ho for Tuesday.
6th period – Japanese 2 – room 110
In the workbook, students should do the lower part of page 20, about letter-writing conventions in Japanese. Then they should do all of page 21 in the workbook.
Homework (which they may begin in class), is to complete page 19 in the workbook.
They may use dictionaries and their textbooks.
7th period – Japanese 4/AP – room 110
All students, Japanese 4 and AP Japanese students, read pages 61 through 65 in the text, 2 Nakama, to become acquainted with how the expressions deshou/darou (often used in weather forecasts) are related to other forms like kamo shirenai (“perhaps”) and kana/kashira (“I wonder,”)
Japanese 4 students should then do exercise C on pages 76 and 77, being sure to write on a separate piece of paper.
AP Japanese students should read page 71 about component shapes of kanji. Pages 72 through 75 list 30 kanji, with instruction on stroke order, that are required for this lesson of 2 Nakama. AP students, referring to this list, should translate the sentences on page 75.
Homework for the weekend:
AP students – make flashcards for the 30 kanji for this lesson.
