A Block Two Day
Japanese 1, period 5 (first half of Block 3)
Yesterday students did (or should have done) pages 34 and 35 in the workbook: new hiragana symbols for na, ni, nu, ne, and no. Today they should do page 36, writing in both the Romanization and the English meaning under the words for that page. They should also check back in the workbook and make sure that every page between page 14 and page 35 is complete. Students who finish everything should practice testing each other with flash cards.
Japanese 2, period 6 (second half of Block 3)
Students should read pages 17, 22, 24, and 25 in the text. Then they should complete the following items in the workbook:
Page 16, section A
Page 20, “Tasuku”, but instead of putting it in the workbook, they should write/draw it on a separate piece of unlined paper (computer paper would be find – you’ll need about 29 sheets). These pages should be handed to you at the end of the period.
Japanese 4/AP, 7th period (Block 4)
AP Japanese students and Japanese 4 students should work together in pairs. The assignment is to pick one character (choices are listed below) from our reader, “A Homestay in Japan. In pairs, students should write a letter, in Japanese, to a friend as if they were that character, telling about Amy’s arrival in Japan, the experience of meeting her, plans for welcoming and hosting her. This letter should be approximately one typewritten page in length, double-spaced, that is to say, about 200 words. Please remind the students to double-space and to use paragraphs. They should give the letters to you at the end of the period.
Students must write as one of the following:
Mr. Yamashita
Mrs. Yamashita
Amy
Ichiro (16 year old son)
Akiko (14 year old daughter)
(Mayumi, the 5 year old daughter, is too young to be a good correspondent.)
