JAPANESE 3 -- First period
Surprise vocab test on 3 Kimono Chapter 1, today: 10 questions, 5 from Japanese to English, 5 from English to Japanese. Today’s quiz will count for only a few points. Another vocabulary quiz next Tuesday will earn more points.
On board, new kinship terms:
Husband: 主人、しゅじん; ご主人、ごしゅじん
Wife: 家内、かない; 奥さん、おくさん
Daughter: 娘、むすめ;お嬢さん、おじょうさん

In class, students were told to write in their notebooks every single word in Chapter 1 that they didn’t understand. This is a necessary preliminary step for acquiring this vocabulary. Making flash cards would be an excellent next step.
Learning this Chapter 1 vocabulary is HOMEWORK for the weekend!

Practice writing Japanese from dictation:

Some students feel class is going too fast. We will continue to encourage them. Come to tutorial Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons!
There will be a short test on reading hiragana あ to と、Including hiragana with dakuten, on next Tuesday.
We looked at hiragana homework that was written in new shaped formats.

Working from the “Animal Shiritori” handout from Wednesday, we spoke sentences and projected them, using animal words and combining them with previous superhero information:

ねこ は いぬ が すき じゃ ない です。
しか は 「さんた」 が すき です。
Periods at the ends of sentences in Japanese are small circles.
Quotation marks are indicated by brackets, for example 「さんた」

JAPANESE 2 -- Sixth period
Activities-in-places assignment—students read out loud from their homework and then handed it in. (See section below in quotes.)
We went over again the difference between using に to indicate the destination in a sentence with a “traveling verb” and using で to indicate a place/location were the action happens in a sentence with an “active verb.”
We listened to the audio portion of the lesson in the いいましょう 一 section:
