0. お正月 に 日本人 は おとそ 飲んで おぞうに を 食べて お寺(おてら)に 行く。 At New Year, Japanese people drink spiced sake, eat (special) soup, and go to temples.

Homework: Write 5 questions (with 5 answers, each) appropriate for the semester final
We will be performing original dialogues this year during the official exam period. Think about who you might like to work with. Performance will be in pairs, with each person handing in a copy of the dialogue in both Japanese and English translation. Remember the Unities of (our) Drama: one locale, consistent characters, one time period. Be sure to emphasize vocabulary from first four chapters of 3 Kimono.
Assignment due next Monday: Nengajo for state and national contest – required for all students -
● The Nengajo must be on 4x6 inch white, unlined, index card.

● The student must write his/her name in ink vertically on the bottom left-hand side of the card, relative to the direction of the design. It is preferable to write the name in Katakana, but names written in English are acceptable. Students with names that can be written in Kanji may use either hiragana or kanji as appropriate.)
● The Nengajoo design must include: the year 2010 and either GANTAN (元旦) or TSUITACHI (一日) written in kanji. Students may include other appropriate phrases or best wishes in Japanese, but those mentioned above are mandatory.
● The design theme must focus on the up-coming 2010 New Year, Year of the Tiger: 寅. The design should also creatively focus, in some manner, on how the New Year is celebrated in Japan. The card design should be related to the animal of the year represented in socially acceptable manner.

AP Jpn: Each student must be a travel agent and present a week-long tour of the Japanese city of your choice (and its surroundings). Speak as if you were talking to potential customers, convincing them about how wonderful your tour will be. Detail all travel arrangements, costs, events and sightseeing destinations. Student may choose the time of year. Use as much vocabulary and structures as possible from 2 Nakama, Chapter 2
