JAPANESE 1 – Fifth period

In class work on creating crossword puzzle using as much vocabulary as possible from Chapter 4 of Kimono.

Homework: answer questions in section I. A at top of page 51

Practice on “while”

Went over these sentences in class:
“while”—stem + ながら vs ――verb form て いる間
Meaning: actions taking place simultaneously

Practice sentences (first, figure out what the main clause is):

1. Don’t talk on the phone while doing homework.
2. I like to read while my younger sister is doing cleaning.
3. Do you listen to music while making cookies?
4. While I was sleeping, my big brother left the house.
5. The student took a walk while his friends were studying.
6. My mother sang while playing the piano.
7. (Be careful. This one is a trick question.) I’m tall, while my brother is short.
