JAPANESE 3 -- First Period

Mrs. Marianna Rubin came to speak about CIEE, Council on International Educational Exchanges and its programs for study abroad by high school students.

We handed back 2 earlier tests -- if there are questions, please see me after school.

See page 52 of text. Be prepared to ask questions about 4 different places in Tamamiya Dept Store floor plan on page 53. (You may consult your translations.

いいましょう 二   Read in class - questions

Don’t forget that we are learning about the following:
Colors and patterns
いろ  Color (Noun)
いろいろな   Various (Adjective)
いろっぽい  Sexy)

Be sure to remember about the nominalizations of adjectives:
Example:
あかい ソックス、Red socks を はきました。  I wore read socks.
あかい の を はきました。 I wore red ones.

Handout of basics on 日本との出会い、第四課

On board:
Doing things for someone else   __て あげる
People doing things for us   ___て くれる

Examples:
I washed dishes for my big brother. 家の兄にさらを洗って上げました。
The builder made the roof for us.  大工は屋根を作ってくれた。

Homework is to read chapter 4 in ”A Homestay in Japan” and to translate into Japanese the handout of sentences using --て あげる、 --て くれる

1.I cleaned the room for my mother.
2. The sensei explained math (to us).
3.Father bought a TV (for me).
4.The waiter carried soba (to us).
5.Akiko spread out the futon for Amy.
6.Friends made coffee and cake (for us).
7.We sang a song for the team.
8.Ichiro wrote a letter in Japaense ( for me).
